All About The iPhone's Multi-Touch Technology

As soon as word about the iPhone’s development came out, its most awaited and most anticipated feature was the multi-touch screen display. Noting that it came out with a 3.5-inch screen, one of the largest in the mobile phone history, it is undoubtedly the best feature of this gadget. Unlike its sensors that have been merely developed into the iPhone with a new function, the multi-touch screen is an entirely new development. No other gadget has developed this feature.

This multi-touch screen allows the iPhone users to operate the entire functionality of the gadget using just the fingers. Unlike other touch screens, the iPhone need not be accompanied by a mechanical keyboard or even a stylus. Simply tapping on the screen will allow the user to access menus, dial numbers, and compose SMS or e-mail messages, and so much more. When composing messages, SMS or e-mail alike, the screen displays a virtual keyboard for inputting text. For the benefit of those who has gotten used to mechanical keyboard and might find it a little bit difficult to use a virtual keyboard, Apple has provided the iPhone with applications to address their concerns. These applications include automatic spell check, word prediction, and a customizable dictionary that is open to new word additions. Furthermore, the iPhone addresses the likelihood for typographical errors through its self-correction features.

Another unique feature of the multi-touch screen is the fact that it voids the use of scrolling wheels that are usually found at the side of other smart phones. The reason for this is that the multi-touch screen allows its user to scroll up or down through the screen’s display simply by dragging a finger towards the desired direction. The multi-touch screen refines this task by making the scroll speed directly proportional to the speed of the dragged finger.

In addition to this, the multi-touch screen revolutionizes the concept of a multi-media phone. It functions with a sensing ability that can be used for either magnifying or reducing the size of images or web pages. This multi-touch sensing feature allows the user to manipulate display sizes simply by an action similar to pinching. That is, by simply placing two fingers at either side of the object and then moving them either father apart or closer together the image sizes are changed. This does not distort any images because they are scaled and resized according to its original dimensions.

Although these are but some of the most unique features that the multi-touch screen provides, it seems as if one simply has to use the iPhone itself in order to find out the entirety of its benefits.
